Jackie Robinson first played on the Monarchs. The Kansas City Monarchs were the longest-running franchise in the history of baseball's Negro Leagues. Operating in Kansas City, Missouri and owned by J. L. Wilkinson, they were charter members of the Negro National League from 1920 to 1930.

After Jackie Robinson made it into the highest Negro-professional baseball team, Branch Rickey, noticed Robinson as he was playing on the Monarchs. Rickey called to meet up with Robinson and made deal to him that if he plays on Montreal ( which was a all white people team) and if he were to do good then he would sign him to the Brooklyn Dodgers
As Robinson started playing on Montreal, he was called names, made fun of, hit, and lots of more. Even though all of this happened, Robinson fought through and made his way to signing the contract to be on the Brooklyn Dodgers.
